The Kröller-Müller Museum is an exquisite art museum and sculpture garden, located on the grounds of a hunting estate in the Hoge Veluwe National Park in Otterlo in the Netherlands. The museum is home to a considerable collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh: works such as The Potato Eaters, Cafe Terrace at Night and On the Threshold of Eternity. It houses the second-largest collection of van Goghs in the world (only slightly smaller than the van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam). Apart from works by van Gogh, other highlights include works by Piet Mondrian, Georges-Pierre Seurat, Odilon Redon, George Braque, Paul Gauguin, Lucas Cranach, James Ensor, Juan Gris and Pablo Picasso.
The museum is named after Helene Kröller-Müller, an avid art collector and early 20th century industrialist who was one of the first to recognize van Gogh’s genius and began collect his works only a few years after van Gogh’s early demise. In 1935, she and her husband donated the grounds, the houses and a museum specifically built to house their entire van Gogh collection to the state of the Netherlands.
